Plant Development and Metabolism
Plant Meristems: Key to Understanding Plant Adaptation
Plant meristems give rise to all plant organs and are key to the plant’s ability to adapt to changing environments. Understanding how meristems develop and respond to the environment is essential for improving plant adaptation and acclimation.
In CEPLAS I and II, we explored how genes and metabolites control plant development, organ structure, and function. Now, in CEPLAS III, we take the next step: moving beyond single genes and molecular networks to understand the complex interactions between plant development, metabolism, and changing environmental conditions.
By uncovering the genetic, metabolic, and environmental rules that shape meristem and organ development, anatomy, and physiology, we aim to predict plant traits and design SMART plants - plants with new combinations of traits and better ability to adapt to environmental changes.
