Research focus

Decrease of fertilizer use in agriculture, while maintaining or improving yield is of utmost interest in a world with growing population. Using untapped resources like nitrogen (N) from the air, or recycling nutrients leached in the water also helps to preserve the environment. To this aim we need full understanding of nutrient sensing and signalling from root, as well as maximising the utilization of microorganisms that can either fix nitrogen from the air or make available nutrients that are in a form not usable to the plant. Our group focuses on understanding these processes for N, and Zn with a smaller focus on phosphorus using a combination of phenomics approaches.
