Research project extended

CEPLAS member Michael Feldbrügge is involved in the FOR 5116 "exRNA" research unit which investigates the communication between plants and microbes.

The Research Unit "Plant-microbe communication through extracellular RNA" includes the University of Hamburg, RWTH Aachen, LMU München, Max Planck Institute of Molecular Plant Physiology Golm and Heinrich Heine University.

The central hypothesis of the researchers is that exRNAs (RNA effectors) have a conserved key role in pathogen infection and plant health, and therefore also have a high potential for improving plant health. The overall objective is to reveal the role of exRNAs in cell-to-cell communication and their delivery pathway. At HHU, the focus is on communication between phytopathogenic fungi and plants, which can be effected via exRNAs.
