Research Focus
This project aims to reveal the molecular and biochemical mechanisms that determine the structure and function of plant-associated microbial communities using the plant beneficial fungus Serendipita indica and the fungal pathogen Bipolaris sorokiniana as well as individual bacterial strains and synthetic bacterial communities belonging to the core microbiota of Arabidopsis or barley, respectively. Specifically, the project focuses on identifying and characterising the metabolic pathways that govern plant host protection, inter-kingdom cooperation, and host colonisation within the plant microbiota. By employing reductionist methods, molecular, biochemical, and imaging techniques, we aim to pinpoint key inter-microbial mechanisms.
