Research Focus
C4 photosynthesis is an evolutionarily young trait that enables plants to thrive in hot and dry environments. Due to these unique qualities, multiple attempts have been made to engineer this mechanism into regular C3crops such as rice. As this has proven challenging, researchers are now aiming to better understand C3 to C4 evolution. To this end, we study gene regulation in natural C3-C4 intermediates using cutting-edge technologies like single-cell sequencing.
