Research Focus
Plant-applicable optogenetic tools provide advanced capabilities to quantitatively examine and subsequently reversibly manipulate signalling pathways with high spatiotemporal resolution. Combined with CRISPR/Cas systems, optogenetics allows precise control over gene expression at the endogenous locus. In my project, I aim to establish optogenetics in the model liverwort Marchantia polymorpha and investigate central plant phenotype signalling pathways integrating environmental and developmental cues. This will reveal insights into engineering new and desired plant phenotypes thereby contributing to the development of SMART plants for tomorrows needs.
