Research Focus
The global food demand is expected to rise drastically due to population growth and climate change, therefore we need solutions for fast crop improvement. My project addresses this issue with the development of a protein transfer system with Agrobacteria for transgene-free genome engineering of plants. For the system to work efficiently, I will optimize the expression of proteins in Agrobacteria and their transfer into plant cells. In comparison to traditional genome editing approaches like T-DNA transfer, the optimized protein transfer will reduce the likelihood of off-target effects as well as speed up the process of genome editing.
