Besides for metabolic genes, we know little about the functional role of gene order in plants. Intuitively, gene order that has some molecular function is likely to be conserved across evolutionary time. Following this idea, I study the evolution of gene order in the Brassicaceae family, to expand our understanding of the significance of maintaining gene order to ensure proper gene function.
