This project will investigate how rhizosphere microstructure shapes microecological niches and root-driven microbial community assembly. Using soil-inspired microfluidic environments, spatial patterning, live imaging and defined microbial communities, it will test how physical structure and microscale transport shape spatial patterning, root–microbe communication, microbial community organization and responses to biotic stress.
