The plant-associated microbiota promotes plant health, supports nutrient uptake, and helps plants to cope with (a)biotic stresses. The effects of microbes on the plant host are largely driven by metabolic interactions. However, the metabolic principles that govern these interactions remain poorly understood. In my project, I use genome – scale metabolic modeling (GEMs) to gain a mechanistic understanding of the microbial interactions shaping plant-associated microbial communities.
