On October 14th, 90 students of the Master programme Biological Resources and the Bachelor programme Sustainable Agriculture of Rhine-Waal University joined the TRANSPLANT excursion to the Institute of Plant Sciences in the University of Cologne, initiated by Prof. Dr. Natalie Laibach and Prof. Dr. Jens Gebauer. The students discovered how academic life looks like in Cologne, explored the graduate programme for Biological Sciences and learned about Cluster of Excellence on Plant Sciences - CEPLAS.

The group was welcomed and introduced to the University of Cologne and Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences by Prof. Dr. Stanislav Kopriva, CEPLAS group leader and Vice-Dean of Research of the Faculty. Dr. Isabell Witt, Coordinator of the Graduate School for Biological Sciences provided an overview about the PhD program. An introduction to CEPLAS was given by Prof. Dr. Markus Stetter, CEPLAS group leader for crop evolution and adaptation.

The visitors were split up in groups, so that every student could join a tour to the teaching greenhouse and get some insights about the automated robot system “FarmBot” by Dr. Mitzi Villajuana Bonequi. In parallel, posters were presented by CEPLAS researchers and PhDs to the enthusiastic audience leading to fruitful and long discussions.
