Centromeres are essential for chromosome inheritance, yet they remain among the least understood regions of plant genomes. Recent advances in genome assembly now make it possible to study these complex regions in unprecedented detail. Building on my background in plant genomics and genome variation, I'm interested in understanding how centromeres are organized, how they evolve and what determines their function, and in exploring how this knowledge could be used for chromosome engineering and plant breeding.
