Maria von Korff Schmising elected as member of the Leopoldina
The national academy of sciences was founded in 1652 as the ‘Deutsche Akademie der Naturforscher’ and has about 1,600 members. It represents German science abroad and advises politicians and the public.
Maria von Korff Schmising is head of the Institute for Plant Genetics at the Heinrich Heine University Düsseldorf and was elected as a member of the academy because of her outstanding scientific work.
