Photosynthesis is one of the key plant traits that determine crop yield. In my project I am focusing on studying the impact of spatial constraints on photosynthetic metabolism using constraint-based metabolic modelling. Our goal is to use this modelling approach to describe how variation in spatial constraints associated with C3, C2 and C4 photosynthetic types affects metabolic pathways, such as energy metabolism and nutrient assimilation. In this way, we hope to better characterize the metabolic changes associated with different photosynthetic types and ultimately improve crop yield and adaptability.
