Research Focus

Plant growth is driven by meristems, which contain pools of stem cells that give rise to the plant’s new organs. My project focuses on the role of CLE (CLV3/ESR-related) signaling peptides in the regulation of meristems in barley. CLE peptides are known regulators of meristem activity and stem cell maintenance, processes which in turn control plant development. My aim is to investigate CLE peptides which are responsive to environmental cues and can then direct meristem activities to modify barley plant architecture.
