Characterising plant-bacteria interactions that promote the uptake of nitrogen and sulphur from organic sources

This project seeks to deepen our understanding of how bacterial metabolism supports plant N & S nutrition from organic molecules. Co-cultivation experiments will be undertaken with the different combinations of Arabidopsis accessions and root-associated bacterial isolates. We seek to identify differences in plant N & S uptake across these different plant × microbe combinations. Top and bottom performing plant × microbe combinations will then be analysed in further detail, using stable isotope labelling and mass spectrometry.
