The control of adventitious root formation in the perennial Arabis alpina

Adventitious root formation allows clonal multiplication of plants and can provide rapid fixation of elite genotypes in breeding programmes. This procedure is mainly exploited in woody perennials and is highly dependent on the species, ecotype, age and environmental conditions. Herbaceous perennials such as Arabis alpina clonally propagates through the production of adventitious roots. My aim is to characterize the formation of adventitious roots within the perennial life cycle of A. alpina and identify components involved in this process using forward and reverse genetics.
