CEPLAS sections in the Botanical Garden

Since 2015 CEPLAS contributes with a section on future biomass plants to the exhibition "Crops - Past | Present | Future" in the Botanical Garden Düsseldorf. Crops such as Miscanthus, Silphie and Sida are presented here, which play an important role in the production of energy from renewable raw materials.

In 2018, our new section opened, illustrating impressively the aspects of plant breeding. In this living exhibition, visitors can learn about the developmental history of today's high-performance plants corn and wheat from their wild ancestors Teosinte, Emmer and Einkorn or observe the Mendelian laws of inheritance at the example of the flower colors.

Each year, CEPLAS researchers offer several guided tours on crop plants in the Botanical Garden, further information about the dates can be found in our public events calendar.

In 2022 we celebrate the 200. birthady of Gregor Mendel, the "father of genetics". CEPLAS has therfore organized a mini exhibition on Mendels work entiteled: From counting peas to the "father of genetics"
