I can transform light into energy!

Plants convert the energy of sunlight into chemical energy (in the form of sugar). All they need as nutrients is carbon dioxide from the air (C02) and water (H20) and minerals from the soil. This reaction also produces the oxygen we need to live.

This process is called photosynthesis. If a plant lacks light, it cannot grow because it has no energy.

    Experimental setting

    • Place cotton wool in both plates and spread some cress seeds on top
    • Cover one plate with aluminium foil and cut a smalll hole in the middle (can also be a form you like e.g., a heard or butterfly!)
    • Keep the cotton wool moist during the complete experiment

    Results

    • The cress seeds can only germinate and grow at places where there was light because only there photosynthesis takes place!
