Plant meristems maintain undifferentiated stem cells in their centre, and continuously generate new structures, such as leaves or flowers, in the periphery of meristems. New research published by Rüdiger Simon´s team in eLife now uncovers how secreted peptides, coming from the periphery (green) or the centre (magenta) coordinately regulate meristem size and shape.
