This year’s “CEPLAS Women in Plant Sciences Day” took place (due to corona) in a small round of young motivated female researchers, who were very eager to learn more about how to approach career development planning.

The event offered a very diverse program. Dr. Beate Scholz, strategy consultant and expert in career development, started off with a general introduction on the situation of women in science. This was followed by two inspiring talks of established scientists Dr. Franziska Turck (MPIPZ ) and Prof. Eva Novack (HHU), who shared insights into their career trajectories. They highlighting some of the key decisions they took and talked about risks, they were willing to take in order to achieve their career goals.

In the afternoon an interactive workshop with Dr. Karin Bodewits from Natural Science Career dealt with the question of what skills and competencies are needed when planning a career in the academia. The participants already embarked in their personal journey of career planning and developed their first individual career plan.
