Dr. Marion Eisenhut

Our research aims at a mechanistical understanding of manganese (Mn) homeostasis in oxygenic photosynthetic organisms. Mn is of central importance for these organisms, since the transition metal is employed as indispensable inorganic catalyst for the splitting of water within photosystem II. To identify evolutionary conserved proteins involved in Mn homeostasis, we are performing our studies in the cyanobacterium Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803 and the land plant Arabidopsis thaliana in parallel.

Within CEPLAS, we focus on the identification of novel players in Mn homeostasis network, their role in plant metabolism, and their significance in plant and plastid development.
