Mixed-linkage glucan (MLG) is a hemicellulose mainly retrieved in the plant cell wall of grasses. However, the biosynthetic pathway of this polysaccharide remains unclear.
The aim of my postdoctoral contract is to use the yeast model, Pichia pastoris such as a biofactory in order to uncover mechanistic insights into the biosynthesis of MLG. In order to reach this goal, three gene candidates have been selected for expressing them in the yeast model and the produced polysaccharides will be characterized by mass spectrometry and chromatographic methods.
