Research Focus

C4 species are characterized by high light, nitrogen, and water use efficiency. Interestingly, C3-C4 intermediate species has been described as natural intermediates on the evolutionary path from C3 to C4 photosynthesis, exhibiting intermediate CO2 compensation points and C4-like leaf anatomical features. We aim to reach a better understanding of the key regulators and developmental process determining the establishment of such biochemical features and leaf anatomy in C3-C4 species of the Brassicaceae family. For this purpose, we will combine cell biology, microscopy, and single-cell approaches together with computational biology.
